Ever since I downloaded PicFrame on the recommendation of a friend, I’ve been using it more and more, not only to present shots but also in their composition. I’ll be looking at something and thinking of three or four photos pieced together, instead of just one. Easy diptychs, triptychs, quadtychs, etc.

Not bad for a buck.

Multi Lines make me want to hurt myself

Sometimes I’ll see a new product or idea or something and I’ll kick myself for not having thought of it already. That exact thing happened when I first saw Multi Lines from Connect design. It seems like such a no-brainer, and opens up the possibilities of ubiquitous power outlets in my apartment, whose aged, wartime wiring usually precludes such a wonder.

They’re sold out every time I check the page, which is a no-brainer too, I guess, seeing as how ridiculously clever these things are. They even have sticky pads so you can run them up the wall. Fucking genius.

Getting Dimed By Transit

When the news broke today that the TTC was considering a ten cent fair hike and a reduction in service to 48 bus routes, I was shocked. Then outraged. Then enraged. Now, strangely calm.

Not only does the proposed plan not make any business/common/good sense whatsoever, the idea that the vehicle registration fee’s cancellation is being paid for by transit riders (whether true or false) is troubling. No doubt this will be a factor in the coming debate about this plan, and it bolsters the car vs. sustainable transit rhetoric so prevalent in current municipal politics, as characterized, on one end of the spectrum, by Rappy here, a commenter on on the Star article:

Gee, I always thought cities were for people. And a whole lot of people ride the TTC (even taxpayers! gasp!). Another $5 a month is tough to swallow along with the route reductions, especially considering the substantial fair increase last year. Come on, Mayor Ford. You say you’re for the everyday Torontonian, you say transit’s essential. Prove it. Lead the cleanup effort at the TTC and cut costs at the administrative level first before extorting more money from riders. Because the better way it sure ain’t.

Sartorialist Mini-Doc

I’ve been reading The Sartorialist on and off for a couple of years (though you wouldn’t know it to look at me—heh), and I’ve always enjoyed how the man behind the blog, Scott Schuman, manages to blend street and fashion photography so effortlessly, with such captivating results. He makes me want to dress better.

Schuman is the subject of this great little documentary, in which he described what he does, how he does it, and why.
